Playhousekids was started by sisters Kellie
Fitzmaurice and Haidee Dowling in August 2003.
Our energetic home business is dedicated to
offering clothing, gifts and linen for babies, kids and their
rooms that is both fresh and affordable.
We refuse to accept that to maintain a successful
business we have to go with mass-produced factory made garments
- despite their cheapness. Fortunately we have John Sutikno
(below left, with his wife and 2 of his children), who lovingly
oversees the hand making of the entire Playhousekids range.
We met John about five years ago when he worked
in a small tailoring store in Kuta, Bali. The Bali bombings
affected the lives and livelihoods of every Indonesian in
Bali and John was due to seek out work to support his family in
West Timor. However, we both persevered. With our financial
assistance John was able to buy sewing machines to develop
a small business, which now provides his livelihood. Building
this relationship and trust has been both challenging and
rewarding. But he does his best for us and we do our best
for him. We wouldn't be successful without each other.
